Illustration & image Human-directed
Zarya of the Dawn
A short graphic novel whose images were generated with Midjourney and whose text, layout and story were written by its author.
Where the human came in
Kashtanova wrote the story, chose and arranged hundreds of images, and edited them into panels. The US Copyright Office protected the text and arrangement, not the images.
Why it is not slop
The case that drew the line between generated material and authored work. The comic is readable, personal and clear about how it was made.
Seed entry: written from public sources and awaiting editorial review.
